The idea of starting a Law College in Tumkur was mooted by Sri K.V. Subramanya swamy, who felt that the need of a law College in Tumkur town, which is known as an Educational centre. He was confident that a Law College will fill up the vacuum and also be useful to less fortunate students who cannot leave their town to pursue their studies in the field of law. Sri K.V. Subramanya Swamy had reposed utmost confidence in me and insisted on my co-operation in materializing his ambitious project.
Tumkur town though a small place was blessed by many intellectual legal luminaries who were selfless crusaders for a cause that could help the growth of this institution. Many have voluntarily served the college freely and rendered yeoman service to the development of this solitary rural college.
In the year 1958, Vidyodaya Law College was affiliated to Mysore University. In the year 1974 it came under the aegis of Bangalore University till 2005. It was under the Tumkur University till 2009. Vidyodaya Law College from 2009 onwards is under the tutelage of Karnataka State Law University, Hubli and is recognized by the Bar Council of India.
The Law graduates from our institution have joined judiciary as judges of High Court, District Court and Subordinate courts. Many of our students are also practicing as Advocates in many parts of our country. Our students have participated in various state level Moot Court competitions, intercollegiate debate Competitions and Seminars and have secured many awards. We are proud to announce that 5 of our students secured Ranks in the year 2009. Our Law College completed 50 years service and had celebrated Golden Jubilee in the year 2009.
I hope that the Law College will achieve a very good progress in overall development of legal education. I extend my full co-operation in the process of providing good infrastructure for students and to maintain quality of legal education along with the guidance for placement.
With Best Wishes
